The Japan-America Society of the State of Washington (JASSW) will host a Volunteer Workshop for its Japan In the Schools (JIS) program, which provides hands-on cultural learning experiences for children. Our volunteers bring an authentic Japanese school experience directly to K-12 classrooms through a 50-minute interactive session.
At the workshop, our experienced lead presenter will demonstrate JIS’s presentation programs and share tips for volunteers.
The March 1st session will focus on the following programs:
Japan in a Suitcase (JS): Taro & Hanako
Taro & Hanako
This presentation follows a Japanese third grader named Taro through his day in school. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to use chopsticks, speak some simple Japanese phrases, see textbooks Taro uses in class. Hanako is a separate presentation following an eight grader.
Japanese Language and Culture Visits (JLCV):
Customs, Shopping, Restaurant
These presentations give high school Japanese language students an opportunity for Japanese immersion in "real life" situations, using the skills they have learned in class. If you are a new volunteer, or have been away for awhile, please come to train in our new, updated presentations.
